Old England History

The Old England Lodge was founded by W.Bro William Foulsham PPJGW (Northumberland) and Eight other Brethren, Four of which were members of Panmure Lodge No 720, the Petitioning Lodge.

The Warrant for the Lodge was issued on 15th November 1878 in Thornton Heath under the London District and the Lodge was Consecrated on 22nd May 1879. It first met at the Masonic Hall, Beulah Road East, Streatham. As it's Mother Lodge Panmure was formed in Stockwell to serve the Clapham, Brixton, Camberwell, Stockton and Streatham areas, The Old England Lodge was formed in Thornton Heath to serve this new town and it's surrounding area. Very soon Old England spawned it's first Daughter Lodge, Mitcham Lodge No 2384.

On 7th September 1899 the Lodge was accepted into the Province of Surrey and began meeting at The New Art Gallery, Park Lane, Croydon moving to The Cafe Royal, North End, Croydon on 7th May 1903, where it continued to meet until 1955 when it moved to it's present home at the Croydon Masonic Centre, Oakfield Road, Croydon.

The Present Banner (seen below) is a replacement for the original which was almost completely destroyed in a fire, only the two crossed Union Flags being saved and placed on the new Banner, fire damage still being evident on them.
